Sea Ice Runway

A runway constructed each year on the sea ice near McMurdo. This is where I flew in and in all likelihood will be where I fly out from.

Williams Field

This is an airfield built on the Ross Ice Shelf. It serves ski-equipped planes during the mid-late summer season.

Pegasus Field

This is the airfield we use for wheeled aircraft when the Sea Ice runway closes down. It is also kept ready during the winter for emergency flights. It is named for a crashed plane nearby, which I had the opportunity to visit one day. I also came out here several times over the winter season. It's a scenic place, but very cold.

First Flight

The first flight of the 2003-2004 season came in August 21, and I was at Pegasus field to see the C17 come in. Some pics and movie files are here.
